Train tickets: what counts?

National Rail offers can be used by UK residents and overseas visitors, but each traveller needs qualifying rail evidence. Contactless journeys, Oyster, Eurostar, Heathrow Express and TfL-issued Travelcards do not qualify. Check the exact ticket rules and keep your tickets for entry. A qualifying single is normally valid for the travel day; qualifying returns can cover the period between the outward and return journeys.

A few checks that make a difference

Is a 2-for-1 ticket always the cheapest option?

No. It may be based on a full-price ticket, while ordinary advance tickets can cost less. Compare the total for your whole group on the same date, including the qualifying purchase or train journey.

Can I use more than one promotion together?

The Merlin offers listed here cannot be combined with another discount or applied retrospectively to tickets you already bought. Use the correct promotional booking route.

Does a pass include every castle or historic site?

No. English Heritage, National Trust and Historic Scotland operate different passes with different property lists. National Trust for Scotland and the Palace of Holyroodhouse are not included in the Historic Scotland pass.

When will Universal Studios open in Bedford?

The official project is called Universal United Kingdom Resort. Its expected opening year is 2031. The official sources checked do not give a specific public opening day or ticket prices.
